West Highland white terrier
Westie is the other name of West Highland white terrier, it is a dog breed which comprises of white coat. They are very energetic and are not considered as lap dog. They are used for finding out badgers by digging the specific grounds or their homes. The face of this particular breed is flat and the head is quit longer as compared to that of the other dogs. The flatness of the face from the sides of the ears are usually removed when these dogs are presented in the dog shows, special kind of glue is used to make the ear stick to the head this helps in giving a proper shape to the face of the dog. A V shape is formed on the exterior corner of the eyes.
Appearance:
They are only in white color, have bright eyes. Its weight is about between 15 to 20 pounds in males and 13 to 16 pounds in females and normally Westie’s have the height from 8 to 12 inches. Their tails are typically in a carrot shaped and always erect. The size of its tail is about 5 to 6 inches.
They have big nose that is black in color, short jaws and deep chests. The teeth of the West Highland white terrier are assembled in form of level bite or as in scissors. They have quite bigger teeth as compared with these sizes of the dogs. Their bones are so much strong and powerful.
History:
The West Highland white terrier was previously called as Poltalloch terrier. They came to the United States in early 1900s and were called Roseneath terrior. They have a steady even temperament and are not hyperactive in their work. They are free-spirited, loyal, gentle, courageous and affectionate. Basically, some people believe that Westies developed from white dogs of Cairn terriers.
